Erin Schachter

Associate   |   Montréal

Erin Schachter is a Montréal-based attorney specializing in data privacy, cybersecurity, and intellectual property law. With extensive experience advising clients nationally and internationally on privacy laws, she is recognized for her ability to navigate complex international data privacy challenges. Her work includes building comprehensive data compliance programs, managing large-scale data breach incidents, and conducting privacy impact assessments. Erin has also advised organizations on data transfers across borders, internal data governance, and employee privacy training.

Erin’s passion for technology law stems from her academic background in English literature, where her interest in copyright and intellectual property flourished. This led her to complete a Master’s thesis on the intersection of intellectual property and technology, particularly the protection of computer code as literature. Since 2018, Erin has devoted herself to the evolving field of data privacy, where she combines a deep understanding of law with her passion for technology, ensuring that businesses can protect individual privacy while maintaining compliance with international standards.

A dynamic educator, Erin has taught courses at the University of Québec in Montréal, the University of Montréal, and Laval’s Bar Association, covering topics such as data privacy, fintech, and the right to be forgotten. She regularly leads professional training programs, helping organizations and lawyers alike to enhance their legal skills and privacy awareness.

Outside of her legal practice, Erin is a dedicated public speaker and enjoys using her background in English literature and education to make complex legal concepts accessible to her audience. She has been featured in commercials for her alma mater and the Québec legal library the CAIJ, and has appeared on both English and French radio programs discussing privacy concerns and technology law.
